SSS3

On the weekend that followed SSS2, SUSA returned to Bardowie with enthusiasm, ready for another weekend of sailing and socials. Friday night began with many of Glasgow finding their way along the bars of Sauchiehall Street before finally arriving at Bar Home for the cheap wine and pitchers of questionable cocktails. The night progressed and Strath steered everyone to their regular stomping ground, Light, where Roisin generously kept the bar in business for another year.

Saturday morning brought a surprising amount of wind to Bardowie. Having been given a much needed and greatly appreciated lie in to recover from the previous night's events, thanks to the swimmers, everyone was keen to get on the water. By 1pm, the swimmers had left and an eventful afternoon followed. Glasgow Pink continued to outrace Strath and Edinburgh to stay at the top of Platinum league. Meanwhile, Glasgow Green made their debut in Gold league with a spectacular capsize by James and Lucy on the downwind to many shouts of “WETTY GOT WET!”

Saturday evening split Glasgow between ball gowns at GUSA Ball and the traditional SUSA fancy dress as they transformed into teeth with the clever use of face paint and cardboard. Nevertheless, by midnight most of Glasgow could be found in Garage, covered in glitter thanks to Coleman, and Jimmy lived up to his reputation by being kicked out, this time bringing 3 other sailors with him.

Many a lost shoe later, we gathered once again at Bardowie to watch the ducks glide across its glassy surface and with an eventual announcement of “canned” we assembled for the prize giving. The results left Glasgow Pink winning the Scottish leagues overall and going straight through to finals with Glasgow Blue who had placed 4th and were therefore the highest B team in the leagues. Glasgow Green finished 11th after winning half their races in Gold league and Glasgow Beige ended SSS3 in a strong 13th.
