SSS Ladies Champs 2016

After a whole year, the much anticipated SSS Ladies Champs is back! On the evening of Friday 18th November, Glasgow sent 2 teams and Peter to Dundee for SSS Ladies Team Racing Championships and the coveted jumpers that we will be treasuring forever. After a quick pres at the host’s flat, Glasgow headed out to visit Dundee’s sponsor bar, Clark’s, before everyone (including the photographer) continued to Liquid for a night of shots and dancing with some sailors even taking a well-established detour on the way home to find Dundee’s 24hr bakery.

On Saturday morning, 10 teams arrived at Loch Forfar from all over the UK. Even Loughborough travelled all the way to Dundee to enter 2 teams. That night, Glasgow entered the famed Dundee Union for cheap cocktails as States of Shock. Wrapped up in fairy lights, face paint and tinsel, dancing followed cocktails and the end of the night even found Emily Robertson proving her skills at climbing as she made her way to the balcony after some of Glasgow were accidentally locked out of their host’s flat.

The next day began with frozen boats, - 3 temperatures and fog. Glasgow 1 continued their winning streak and it was clear by lunchtime they would win their fleet. By the time racing was over, Glasgow 1 did indeed finish in 1st overall. Glasgow 2 also sailed well and finished a respectable 4th in Silver league, narrowly missing out on a prize after UHI and Loughborough left before the prize giving. Both teams left on high spirits and are already looking forward to next year’s event.
